This Nearly Black Lily Is the New ‘It’ Flower – And Wednesday Addams Would Absolutely Approve

We might have a while to wait until the third season of Wednesday drops on Netflix, but there’s a new ‘it’ flower doing the rounds that’s serving some serious Addams-flavored energy… and people have fallen hard for its gothic energy.

This should come as little surprise to those on top of their gardening trends, of course, because much of 2026 has come with a distinctly gothic twist – whether that’s due to the gothic romance of Wuthering Heights, the bewitching gardens seen in Practical Magic 2, or Kat Von D’s maximalist approach to black tulips.

Still, it’s nice to see something a little different steal the spotlight from the world of pastel blooms, right? And Lilium ‘Nightrider’, the nearly black lily that’s set to appeal to anyone who prefers their flowers with a little more drama, does exactly that.

High Drama, Low Effort

With its rich purple-black petals and subtle satin-like sheen, this striking lily looks almost completely black in certain light. It’s an unusually dramatic color for a summer flower, giving it an almost otherworldly and deeply Wednesday-coded quality that’s hard to ignore.

Of course, it’s not just the color that makes ‘Nightrider’ so special, or the fact that its upward-facing blooms appear in clusters on tall stems, creating a striking focal point wherever it’s planted.

No, it’s the fact that you don’t need to be an expert gardener to enjoy this showstopper. Like other garden lilies, ‘Nightrider’ is relatively easy to grow, making it a really good choice for gardeners who want maximum visual impact without an overly complicated planting scheme.

The trick is to do the opposite of what you’d do with Wednesday Addams herself: give it a suitable sunny or lightly shaded position. Then, top it off with well-drained soil, then sit back and wait for that striking show come summertime!

Shop Gothic Blooms That Wednesday Would Love:

It goes without saying that this is a flower for those who love a little mystery, dramatic contrasts and planting that makes a statement, which is why you need to think hard about the flowers you pop it next to.

With that in mind, try pairing its almost-black blooms with silver foliage, deep burgundy flowers or soft white planting for a really striking combination that feels like something straight out of your favorite gothic romance.

Alternatively, leave it to do its Wednesday-style thing, and let it stand alone in a container where its unusual coloring can take all the attention. One thing is certain: if you’re looking to introduce a little gothic glamor to your garden, this nearly black lily deserves a place on your radar.

I am confident in saying that a certain Miss Addams would absolutely approve.
